OpenTable Integration Live Tables, Booked in the Chat

DM Champ connects to OpenTable so your AI agent can check live availability, book a table, and change or cancel a reservation for a guest, right inside the WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram or website chat they are already in. OpenTable stays the system of record.

01How it works

Connecting OpenTable Step by Step

What the setup actually looks like, from the connection screen to the first booking or record the AI handles in OpenTable.

  1. 01
    Connect DM Champ inside OpenTable

In OpenTable for Restaurants, open the Integrations Marketplace, find DM Champ and connect it. If the listing is not visible in your account yet, the integration is not available to you yet.

  2. 02
Add the restaurant in DM Champ

Go to Settings, then Booking and Calendar, and click Connect on the OpenTable card. Enter your OpenTable Restaurant ID, the number OpenTable calls the RID, and click Continue.

  3. 03
    Name it and save

Give the restaurant a name, which is what you see in the list and what the AI calls it, optionally add your booking website, and click Add restaurant.

  4. 04
    Pick OpenTable on the agent

Open the agent, go to AI Abilities, turn on Let this agent book appointments, and choose OpenTable in the provider picker. No event type is needed, OpenTable brings its own availability and table plan.

  5. 05
Add the menu to the knowledge base

The connection covers reservations, not your menu. Put dishes, prices, allergen notes and specials in the agent's FAQs, or upload the menu file to the media library.

Every screen and field is covered in the setup guide: OpenTable documentation.

02What the AI can do

Check, Book, Change and Cancel

Once OpenTable is connected and picked as the booking provider on an agent, it works against your live OpenTable inventory. It checks availability for a date, time and party size, taking table types such as standard, high top, bar, counter and outdoor into account, along with dining areas. It books in the guest's name, finds their reservations so it can quote a confirmation number, changes the date, time, party size or special request, and cancels.

  • Availability for 1 to 20 guests against live inventory
  • Books the table in the guest's name
  • Finds the guest's reservations and quotes the confirmation number
  • Changes date, time, party size or special request, or cancels
03In the conversation

How a Booking Actually Goes

The guest asks for a table. The agent asks for the date, the number of guests and a preferred time if they have one, checks OpenTable, and summarises the open times, for example Friday for two, 18:00 to 20:30, every 15 minutes. If a time needs a credit card hold or a deposit it says so first, and OpenTable texts the guest a secure link to complete it. The guest picks a time, confirms their name, and gets the confirmation number. Times are always the restaurant's local time.

04Limits

What the Agent Hands Back to You

Some things stay with the restaurant by design. Parties over 20 guests are OpenTable's limit, so the agent refers those to you. Reservations under a deposit or credit card hold that fall outside the cancellation window, and some changes between policies, have to be handled by the restaurant, so the agent gives the guest your contact details instead of retrying. Ticketed OpenTable Experiences such as tasting menus and events are out of scope: the agent books standard tables only.

  • Parties larger than 20 guests are referred to the restaurant
  • Deposit and card-hold cases outside the cancellation window
  • Ticketed OpenTable Experiences and events
  • Reservations made under a phone number other than the conversation's
05Where bookings land

On Your Appointments Page, and in OpenTable

Every reservation the agent makes shows on your Appointments page with an OPENTABLE badge, so it sits next to your other bookings. OpenTable stays the system of record for the guest: OpenTable identifies them by mobile number, texts the confirmation, and sends the reminders. On WhatsApp and SMS the agent uses the number the conversation is on. On other channels it asks the guest for a mobile number.

06Setup

Connect the Listing in OpenTable First

The connection runs through OpenTable's partner program. In OpenTable for Restaurants, open the Integrations Marketplace, find DM Champ and connect it. Until that is done, OpenTable refuses access and the Restaurant ID step stops with a message saying so. Then in DM Champ go to Settings, Booking and Calendar, click Connect on the OpenTable card, enter the RID, for example 1038007, give the restaurant a name and optionally a booking website.

07Practical tips

Give Guests a Real Way to Reach You

Fill in your phone number and website on the account and on the restaurant, so that when the agent has to hand a guest over, a deposit change or a party of 25, it can give them something to act on. Add the operational FAQs the agent will be asked constantly: hours, parking, private dining, allergen policies, dress code. Use tags such as wine-lover, birthday-celebration or large-party to segment your guest list for broadcasts.

FAQ

Frequently Asked.

Yes. You can add several restaurants, one per OpenTable Restaurant ID. The AI books at the active connection, so pause the others and keep the one this agent should book for active.
